so there was a  weekend, and things happened.

First there was Friday evening, which consisted of Argentina beating France (again) in the 3rd place play-off match in the Rugby World Cup. Rubbish game, France, like the cheese eating surrender monkeys they are, gave up halfway through, so Argentina stomped all over them.

Saturday morning I went to the gym with Jamie, then we went to Puss in Boots because I wanted to show Jamie a pair of thigh-high boots I'd tried on the day before when we went at lunchtime. They're matt black, with circular holes all down the outside, with little buckles inbetween each hole. I will be buying them on Saturday coming, so I shall show you them then, as I cannot find them on the website.

Anyway, so I tried them on, and Jamie loved them, and then we meandered back home and ate sausage and mash for lunch, which was tasty nice but very stodgy which made Jamie and me feel a bit ill, so we had to go and have a lie down. we took Mr Fidget upstairs and had lots of nice warm cuddles. I was curled up around the cat, who was all snuggled up against me and my cardigan (he loves my primark cardi!), and then Jamie curled himself up around me. It was very nice, and we dozed for about an hour or so.

Then I got up, gathered my things and headed over to [profile] black_faery's house, for an afternoon of girly-ness. There was much giggling and things to be had, but after 3 and a half hours, we had successfully transformed our hair. Ros now has red and black hair, and I have gone blonde :-) not chav blonde though, subtle caramel highlights. And it looks very nice, and I will put some pictures up later.

As we were finishing up, [personal profile] hungry_pixel arrived with cats and kittens and things, and duly collapsed of tiredness while we finished drying each other. Then there was Chinese takeaway, and chatting and playing with kittens and things, and there was house-buying paperwork of confusing.

I did not watch the Rugby World Cup final, because I knew it was going to be a terrible game, and I would just get annoyed with it. But Jamie watched it, and kept me up to date with the score and things, and I was much pleased to discover that England had lost, and that South Africa had won. I shall not gloat, for I am not like that. So I shall only mention it here, once, and let it alone. Besides, much more important things coming soon, Anglo-Welsh cup and European Cup starting in the next couple of weeks!

then I went home, and Jamie oohed and aaahed over my hair sufficiently. Then there was sleep. Then on Sunday morning I got up, drove back to Bagshot, and we drove to Swanley to have lunch with Caro and [profile] zero_pixel_coun which was very pleasant. Then home again, by which point I had developed a massive headache of doom. Which we think was because I'd taken out my contacts on the Friday, and had been wearing my glasses all weeeknd. So Jamie gave me a nice head massage, and painkillers, and then I had a shower. my head still hurt after all of that, so I put my new contacts in and my headache just disappeared!

Then we went to the cinema and saw Stardust, which was very good indeed. I have not read the book, but the film was very good and I am now tempted to buy the book and read it. I need a new book, actually.

And now I am back in work again. People in my department have oohed and aaahed over my hair sufficiently. We have decided that stripes make my hair look longer, which is good. And now I have to work. Boo. Don't wanna!

There is such a sense of satisfaction to be had in knowing that you are not in work but all of your collegues are. well, apart from Michelle, who's flying to Phoenix, Arizona this afternoon.

Its especially pleasing when you consider that it means they are having to put up with the worlds most useless managers, and you are not.

Welcome to my Friday!

So far today has been very pleasant. I had a lie in, spend much time playing with my hair, packed a bag for the weekend, have rescued bedding type stuff from my car, to put into Ros's when she gets here, have moved my car from down the street to right in front of my house, and i have chocolate.

well, had chocolate, its all been eaten now. mmm galaxy.

Just popped to the shop to pick up said chocolate and some booze for the weekend. Two amusing things happened.

First thing, as I walked out of my front door, I encountered two of the local cats having a disagreement over territory. It was very funny. The bigger cat was the mangy white-and-black cat that Mr Fidget loves to beat up so. The other cat was the skinny black-and-white cat that lives further up the road. but it was the mangy white one that was doing all the growling and the posing. the black cat was just sauntering round ignoring it. both ignored me, although the black one did let me stroke his head as i went past. the white one ran away from me.

I think tis cos it knows that Mr Fidget lives here, and he is afraid of our house. Is quite funny actually, because I'm so used to never seeing other cats (apart from the grey pikey) because Fidget is so strict about his territory out the back, I forget that he doesnt have any territory out the front.

ANyway, second fun thing, I got asked my age in the shop because the bloke reckoned I looked under 21. how sweet.

have now reached that part of the day where you are ready to go, but its not time to go yet, but there isnt enough time to really get stuck in to doing anything else. hmmm. maybe i'll tinkle the ivories for a bit.

you know, the one thats doing the rounds. I've seen it twice on my Flist so far, and I just spent a goodly while (well, fifteen mins or so) going through it. When I finished, I came to the conclusion that today is not the best timed day to look back across those particular time intervals, as everything vaguely interesting happened either a year or two before, or after the year in question!

About the only interesting thing that I can say came out of it, was a reminder to show you something I did yesterday. Forgive the picture quality, for I was in a hurry and only had my camera and not my scanner to hand. Will scan it properly soon. But, for those who prefer instant gratification regardless of quality, my picture that I drew can be seen below:

So, art aside, nothing else exciting has happened to me.

England somehow made it to world cup semis, don't get me started. I'm just glad the Australians and the New Zealanders are out. Shame about Scotland too, so now we're backing Argentina all the way!

*yawn* today has been a very dull day, and in truth, if I could turn back the clock and do it differently, I would.

my sim got fed up of having to work really hard in the army, so she decided to quit her job, and ended up having to sell her hot tub to pay the bills. she's now a waitress.

oh, and as well as making the Jamie-Sim fall in love with me, my Ros-Sim also has fallen in love with me. Go me!

So, I suppose I've calmed down enough now to make some comment on this, I imagine you're expecting one.

England have qualified for the quarter finals, have set up a rematch with Australia, hopefully the Wallabies can repay them for stealing the title in 2003. Ireland have crashed out, given their poor performances and the alleged off-the-field troubles it is hardly expected. Scotland triumphed over Italy to make it to the quarter finals, facing up against Argentina makes them more likely to get to the semi finals than England (oh how we would laugh if the semi final line up was Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Scotland).

And of course Wales have flopped spectacularly against Fiji, drowning in pool B. Fair play to the Fijians, they obviously wanted it more than we did. And now our coach has been sacked, Welsh rugby is once again in disarray. The search for a new coach is on... and a complete overhaul of the system being promised by the WRU as well.

Didnt we do all of this eighteen months ago? You'd have thought we'd have learned something from the past.. ah well, never mind, thats Welsh rugby for you.

Am hoping they do not cancel the November clash with South Africa, expect the tickets will be cheap as they'll be desperate to fill the stadium and as the Wales Japan game showed, not many welshmen are willing to pay high prices for tickets at the moment, confidence is that low in the team. I would very much like to go, seeing as it was 7 years ago almost to the day when I went to Cardiff with my dad and my then boyfriend Gareth to see Wales play South Africa, just days after my father's father's funeral. It would be a very special moment for me to stand there once more, seeing those green and red shirts out on the field, singing "Cwm Rhondda" as we did on that day. I would like to repeat that experience, only this time with Jamie singing at my side. He of course understands the emotional attachment I have to that occasion, and that particular song (we sang it at Gaga's funeral, you see). It had me in tears at Wales v England earlier in the year (a full Millenium Stadium with the roof closed, all belting out those songs, its something very special).

But I digress. I have already had Troll trying to take the piss, I expect much more of the same from my work colleagues this week. Depends who is in, as it is mostly the sales guys who do rugby, not my immediate colleagues.

In other news-that-is-not-really-news, Jamie is still not feeling great. Although mostly it is his back which is hurting now, not his gut. He is off to see the Doctor tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do. Also, his arm where they stabbeded him with the needles for the blood tests and things is very badly bruised, in fact it is still bleeding internally as the bruise is getting steadily bigger. The nurse who put the venflon in screwed the caps on too tight, so that when they came to put the drip on, the other nurse couldnt get it undone, so she had to apply an amount of force, and there was much twisting, and we thing she perforated the vein a little. Jamie's mum (who takes blood samples for a living and is very very good at it - she specialises in doing it to children) was incensed when he told her about it. For those who care, a photo of Jamie's arm (and bruise) can be found here.

Lets see, what else. Mum phoned yesterday to tell me family related news, which mostly consisted of people being in hospital. Namely my Aunty Mu (Dad's aunt) who has some sort of chest infection (possibly pneumonia) and my Auntie Ann (Mum's aunt) who has had a minor stroke. Thus increasing the likelihood that I will meet my end either through a heart attack or repeated strokes. Nice to know what to look forward to, I suppose!

Tonight we made a very tasty chicken broth, which has all kinds of winter veg in it like parsnips and swede and things. I got to horrible massacre a roast chicken, which was gooey and fun. And it was very tasty. There is loads left, I may have it for lunch and dinner tomorrow!

I started playing the Sims again today, So far I have a Sim called Briony Edwards, one called Jamie Jones, and one called Ros Dando. I have a family set up called Caro and Garry Hewitt, but I find it very difficult to concentrate on two sims at once so I haven't played them yet. I have successfully made my Briony and Jamie sims fall in love, and Ros is a very good friend of Briony's, the only weird part is I guess that Briony is having a successful military career!

Today I found a group on Facebook for ex-Tasker Milward people, which I joined, and discovered lots of my old schoolmates are on there. Am undecided whether I want to catch up with all of them, or just the select few, but I am friends with three of them now (including the one I'm still friends with, and my ex Gareth). I may randomly poke a few people and see what response I get.

I think I'm going to stop typing now, as I've gone on for quite a while now.

G'night y'all.

so, Tinky didn't get an awful lot of sleep last night.

Tinky was in casualty from 1.30am till 6am, because Jamie was not very well at all. Still not entirely sure whats wrong with him, but he's home in bed trying to get better today.

So.. I told my boss I would be an hour or so late into work, so I could a) have a bit more sleep and b) go to the shop and get Jamie food and water and medicine. Now I'm in work, and I'm almost wishing I had told him I'd be off all day, so I could stay in bed too!

Not much work going to get done today I feel.

But we have Macmillan biggest ever coffee morning today, so there are lots of cakes and things to be eaten, which is always good, and raffles for vouchers for expensive shops and things :-)

I had a cream bun.

Right, suppose I should do some work then....

ok, so Caro posted pics of a spider she saw in her garden. mistakenly labeled as a Wolfie.

I can quite categorically state that the spider I have taken pictures of this evening is most definately a Wolf Spider. There are photos and a couple of videos on www.dropshots.com/supertinks. Since Caro's warnings did not seem to work the first time around, I will reiterate:

If you do not like spiders, please do not click on the link to see the pictures. This particular spider is a very old Wolf Spider, and is therefore massive and scary. I take no responsibility for anyone who complains about how scared they are upon seeing the pictures, you know what they are.

why do bad things happen to good people?

some c*nts broke into Jamie's car last night, trying to steal it for a joyride I guess. its been sat unused for a while now, so i guess it kind of looked abandoned. fortunately for us, the battery/electronics don't work properly, so the immobiliser had automatically kicked in, and they weren't able to start it. They have however bent the passenger door out and ripped off the casing from the steering column. Jamie called the police, and they came round this morning. managed to get fingerprints off the steering column bit so they're running them through the system and will arrest whoever comes up as a match.

does mean the car needs a fair amount of fixing, so its looking likely that we may have to replace the car sooner than we wanted to, as the insurance company may well decide to write it off.

So Jamie is very angry and upset (he loves his car lots).

I wasn't here at the time, cos i was at Caro's playing with kittens. I have been a bit of a numpty though, and left my phone at Caro's. luckily, she's down our way tomorrow so hopefully will bring it with her!

just to let you know, necklace arrived this morning, its fab! Ta very much :-)

last night [profile] black_faerycame round with wine and LARP waah, which was very cool. de-stressed me nicely.

today my new trousers for LARP have arrived in the post, and they look like they'll fit, unlike the last pair, which is good (damn my enormous thighs of doom).

also, today I had an email from some bloke who had found a couple of my sea life centre pics from Brighton on Flickr and wanted my permission to use them for an article he has written for www.nowpublic.com about vanishing coral reefs. so that was also cool.

*sigh* guess I should do some work now...

On a more cheerful note, the rest of the weekend was lovely!

Beautiful hot sunshine (well apart from when you're on a train crowded with fat sweaty rugby fans) which was fabulous. managed to get some exposure to sunlight without burning, thanks to my new transparent spray on sun protection. I can do my own back! How cool is that.

Saturday was mostly spent on the rugby. left house at around 11am, wandered into town to pick up some bits and pieces (including a new bra, because I didn't have a strapless one and my new red vest what I bought to wear to the game didn't look right without a bra under it). Had time to kill before the train, so we went to the Walkabout and had lunch. I was very brave, and had the chicken noodle stir fry thing. And it was very nice. then we chilled out outside in the sun (I actually did some sunbathing!) before getting on the train. Then there was rugby, then there was drinks in a pub in Twickenham, wandering round Twickenham trying to decide if we wanted to stay there and eat or just come home, before getting back on a train and coming home. We had Mr Cod for dinner in the end. The Thames was still over its banks in Twickenham, not by much, but an appreciable amount.

Sunday was a day of being useful. First off, we tidied up the garden, putting LRP kit away and such like. The Marquee roof had been out on the bathroom roof all weekend drying out, so we brought that in too. Then I pulled up lots of weeds, and we moved all the rubbish from the back to the front (old furniture etc). We put the bench in a decent place, which meant we could put the table out properly. Now I have a real garden.

There is a definite need for some sort of feature at the bottom of the path though, as there's this path which goes down the border to the holly, but it kind of ends in a composting heap, and doesnt really go anywhere or serve any purpose except to look rubbish. we've currently got a huge green barrell there (the one we used to store arrows in) but it looks ugly. Some sort of statue, perhaps, or a water feature maybe.

All that remains regarding LRP kit sorting from Fayre is to fold up the marquee and get it back in the shed, and to wash the dishes and hand wash some mud off some kit.

Should get it finished in time to start worrying about Renewal!

Work has been kind of crap so far this week, the girl that replaced me in my old role of invoicing has been signed off sick, which means I'm having to do my old job again this week, which sucks loads, cos I hate doing it. unfortunately, there's only me and Shelley who can do it and she's too busy. So its all a bit stressy and rubbish. But I will get through it.

supertinks: (Default)
I left my bag at home today, so I had no house keys (or office keys, for that matter), no phone and no wallet (therefore no money) all day. This wasn't so much of a problem food wise, as I already had my lunch in the office kitchen. but it did mean I was stuck in the office all day, and didn't go out at lunchtime.

And then when I got home I had to sit around outside waiting for Andy to get home to let me in, as Jamie is in London and still isnt home.

I don't like being in the house on my own. I mean, I can quite happily entertain myself, and often Jamie and I will just be doing our own thing, but somehow it seems that being in the house completely on my own (Andy is at the gym) feels like I'm just killing time until Jamie gets back. I have done some useful things, like clean the hob, and do some laundry. but mostly i've been sat around doing not very much.

got some new books in the post today - Raymond E Feist ones. the sequel to Magician, and the next one after that. can't read them yet though (I've not read them before - its all part of my being made to read more fantasy books by Jamie) as I want to re-read Magician before I read them, and I can't do that till I've finished the book I'm reading at the moment, which is called "Spirit Gate" and looked awful (was the free book for joining the SF&F book club) but I've started to get into it now. It has big huge eagles in it, and an interesting setting from a religion/politics view.

hmm, sitting as I am next to the book case, with my laptop all accessible and decent music on the telly (music I wouldn't be able to listen to if Jamie were here, actually, he hates Oasis) I am all overcome with a desire to catalogue all my books, and write reviews of them all. big job I know. but it could be an interesting project. I ought to do something with the webspace I pay for at any rate.

I don't often direct people's attention to news stories, but I think its unlikely some of you will have seen them...

First, a rather horrible story involving animal cruelty. which I wanted to show people because I read the other day that animal cruelty cases are on the rise and I want more people to think about it.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/6927947.stm

The second is a more lighthearted story, showing that "I have a flag" is still a valid land-claiming tactic..

Oh bum. the student loan company people caught up with me. Just opened my payslip and there it is, in black and white. my first student loan repayment.

thats it. i've crossed the line. no pretence of studenthood remains (well, except for the student hovel that is my house). I am an adult.

Ok, so its been a while, and lots have happened. so lets see...

House is still in post-LARP chaos, although the majority of the wet is dealt with. Still have a damp marquee canvas to dry out, but the rain is causing issues with that. And my table cloth is mouldy, so we have to have some fun playing with that.

Work has been relatively relaxed since I got back from LARP, but then having three short weeks in a row (3.5 days before the event, 4 days last week, and 4 days this week due to holiday) is always going to help. Had a fabulous team meeting on Friday last week, which basically cut out a lot of my problems (due to still being responsible for my old job even though we got someone in to replace me and her having been there a month now). Which means I've been able to actually concentrate on my own job almost exclusively, and have finally caught up with myself enough to concentrate on more than just allocating cash. which is nice.

This week is better because the boss is on holiday. He's gone caravanning. In Cornwall. not sure they'll have the best weather though :-)

Weekend just gone, Ros and I nipped up to visit pies Caro, pics of pies can be seen at http://photos.yahoo.com/dyna_the_cat for anyone who cares. There was wine (lots) but no crazy drunkenness which was good. Pies were lots of fun, lots of toe nibbling and kitten-fu. And we saw Olivia and John, which was lovely as I haven't seen Olivia for some time (read - years). Was great to see Vix as well, even if she was super-tired.

There was lots of yummy lasagne and contract whist; also attempted kitten stealing, as Ros and I tried to steal Mr Penlington on our way home. We almost got away with it as well, except that Garry spotted us. Ah well, I don't want to steal them this young cos they pee everywhere.

Driving to Caro's and back was nice with company - I shall have to arrange more joint trips up with Ros.

Mr Fidget was very suspicious of us when we got back to my house, due to all the smelling of pies and things, but he soon settled down.

Yesterday I spent ages counting LARP arrows and inspecting them, doing complicated maths to work out how many belonged to which members of the group (two different lots of arrows bought at two different times by twodifferently composed groups of people, with some people involved in both). This because I'd asked them what we wanted to do with them, and people started moaning about not knowing who's was what etc. And now I've posted all the info on our board, and noone's said anything! ungrateful b****rds the lot of them.

Hmm lets see, what else. Oh yeah, uber-hyped up book. Harry Potter. Don't worry, no fangirl-esque squeeing here, no spoilers either. I have my opinion on the book, I don't think its that great, but then she's not a very good author. Definately thought there was too much expectation floating about though, and it didnt really live up to it. I did want to know how it ended though, and now I do, so I am happy. It will make a decent film I imagine.

More interesting books on the way though, as I have ordered some Raymond E Feist from my book club, and soon there will be a new Brian Jacques Redwall book, and a new Terry Pratchett Discworld book, and the new George R R Martin depressathon book. yay for lots of new books for me to read.

I think thats everything. Oh yes apart from the floods.

We are not flooded yet. In any case, our house is too high above the river to really be affected. However, the Thames is just behind us, where the Kennett joins it, and its already burst its banks. The Kennett itself is very high, although there is no flood warning for it. Just the Thames, which is expected to go tonight.

It may affect me getting to work, as I cycle down the river. Certainly if we try to walk to Tescos we get wet feet. We are more concerned by the gasworks by us which are right on the river, and any affect them flooding will have on us. (like no gas means no heating, hot water or hob based cooking).

But we should be ok.
supertinks: (Default)

Suppose I should at least attempt to keep myself up to date. lets see...

day off yesterday which was much needed, lots of sleep was had, Delvy came round to get his kit and ended up staying for a bit of a waah, which was cool

then we went into town and had pizza express dinner and went to cinema to see HP5. Was disappointed by film. Am eagerly awaiting delivery of the HP7 book, which I hope will not disappoint.

my mobile broke at the weekend, is now doing lots of crazy random things. I have upgraded, so by tomorrow I will be back to normal service (which doesnt really affect anyone, as I never call/text anyone anyway). so now I have new pretty nokia phone.

Jamie has this morning bought us tickets to go see England v Wales in Twickenham on the 4th August!

Yay!

Rugby World Cup warm up match - should be good!

*is all excited now*

Which means my weekends are rapidly filling up:

This weekend - frantic making of LARP kit for the event
Next weekend - LARP event (first one of the year for me - can't wait)
Weekend after - free (for now)
Weekend after - Brighton
Weekend after - RUGBY!
Weekend after - free (for now)
Weekend after - free (for now, but earmarked for frantic making of LARP kit)
Weekend after - Renewal

*pant*

So busy bee for me for a while again, which is nice. I would like to fit in a trip up to MK to see Caro, Garry and the pies, and it would be nice to have another weekend where I don't actually -have- to do anything.

but yay!

Didn't realise twickenham was so accessible from Reading (there's a direct train, it only takes an hour).

hmmm

After a very useful day in work yesterday, where I got completely immersed in my spreadsheets and almost forgot to have lunch, today seems the complete opposite. I really can't be arsed today. MD is away (his wife is having baby today), immediate boss is too busy organising his new kitchen over the phone with his wife to pay attention, so I have been mostly reading stuff on the internet and writing up stuff for LARP (we've decided to write up an OOC group document for our newbies, as we have quite a few it seems, because we're bored of explaining everything over again - today I wrote up all about our OOC group structure and the group logistics).

Lets see, important events which have occured over the last few days which have had an impact on my life:
1. Rather shocked and saddened to read about Chris Benoit's apparent murdering of his wife and young son, and subsequent suicide.
2. Much more happy to read that the Welsh Assembly appears to have agreed on a coalition, which means no election re-run. Glad to see Plaid getting their hands on a bit of power too.
3. Even more happy to read that the WAG has actually made a decision on the Stradey planning application, and it was YES, which means that my rugby region (the Scarlets) can now move to a brand new sexy stadium in Llanelli which is a) closer and b) easier for me to get to. Yay!
4. Ros came over last night for Doctor Who, and we managed to talk her into seriously considering coming back to CP as part of House Daga! Which is awesome, as we desperately need girlies, and decent ones at that.
5. Benjy is coming down tomorrow evening, in preparation for our group meeting on Saturday. So weekend of LARP waah and partying and board games and cooking breakfast for everyone to follow :-)
6. Floods in Sheffield, which means there was a chance that my brother was floundering around somewhere in a river. However, it appears all he is suffering from is random rolling power cuts, as Sheffied is currently undergoing electricity rationing.
7. I got my holiday for this year! Not as exciting as Rome, but for our 2nd anniversary (which falls on the same weekend as Fayre!) Jamie and I are going to Brighton for the weekend, at the end of July. I've never been to Brighton before, and its been an age since I last saw the sea properly.

well thats me up to date.
