problem with swimming and most forms of traditional cardio is that you get decent progression to start with but then get to a stage where you're really counting out an extra metre or two per session and that is when people get discouraged.
as non-stop as can be managed in a busy lane, yes!
I stop for a brief swig of water and rinse of goggles every 4 lengths, and try to maintain a decent speed (as in, one that is challenging to me), although that is tricky when the lane is filled with old people swimming randomly.
