mmmm i'm all full of lovely food...

just got back in from my trip to town with beaver. sum total profit... one new coat, more D&D minis, two bottles of nice wine and Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett in paperback (its just come out i believe). we just had dinner in La Tasca, a Spanish Tapas Bar in the centre of Chester. I bought dinner, since it is Beaver's birthday after all. It only cost us £45 including tip (the waiter was fantastic, the perfect balance between efficiency and politeness - he was very quick to clear up our empty plates, but also left us to enjoy the remainder of our bottle of Rioja in peace before getting us the bill). The food was, as always, fantastic. the wine was wonderful. Surprisingly, given the choice on the menu, the three things I chose were all vegetarian. But it did feel nice to choose them because I liked them rather than because they were all i could have.

While we were drinking the remainder of our wine (after a fantastic dessert of chocolate mousse icecream, vanilla icecream and truffle - I spent at least 20 mins in ecstatic rapture while I ate my pudding, neither listening to nor caring what beav was saying) a couple came in to have dinner. Both utilised the white stick, so were either partially sighted or totally blind. From observing, I'd say she had better vision than him, but her's was still bad enough to warrant use of the white stick. Beav and I were amazed and delighted to watch the waitress lead them to their table, help them both to their seats, then produce menus.. IN BRAILLE. She then proceeded to explain what was on the specials menu, going into enough detail to let them decide properly what they wanted. when she brought them their drinks, she poured their glasses of water from the jug, so they wouldnt have to.. I was amazed. If I didnt love that restaurant already, I love it more now, having seen this excellent display of customer service.

If you are ever in chester, seek out La Tapas and have a meal there. Well worth what you pay that place is.

Beave and I also managed to have an extensive discussion on the merits of engagement rings. I am more secure than ever in the knowledge that someday soon, not too close but not too far away, beaver is going to propose.. not only that, I am now more sure that in spite of how much he will joke about it, he is very serious about the whole thing.

Which is nice to know, really
