So, can't remember how long its been since I last updated, can't remember what i even said last time I updated (I know I could go and check but I'm lazy).

So, whats new.

We decided to withold the rent on our house in order to jump start the letting agency into doing something about the numerous problems we are having.

SUCCESS!!

A new sofa has been ordered (although I'm pretty sure they told me over a month ago that one had been ordered, so would have been delivered by now) and will arrive in about a months time.

2 lovely men (lovely in a personality sense, not in an attractive-to-look-at-sense, tradesmen never are!) came round today and had a look at the bathroom. Tee hee. They reckon the pipes under the boiler are leaking, which explains the soaking wet wall in the toilet, and all the mould, and the fact that the concrete floor under the lino is utterly soaked and mouldy. They are going to recommend we have the whole room gutted, and the pipework fixed, before drying it out with a dehumidifier and redoing the bathroom. Obviously, a new bath is required, and he said he'd recommend getting a proper thermostat controlled set of mixer taps for the shower/bath. Oh yes, and all the brickwork needs repointing.

basically, the whole house needs gutting and starting again, but we'll never see that happening.

So now we wait for the lovely Paula to talk to the landlord and see what he says.

As a show of good faith, I have just instructed my bank to pay the rent. however, if nothing is actually done, or they take forever, I shall not pay them next month!

am glad I have the day off today, as I have successfully cleared out all the crap from our alleyway (its now in a big heap in the garden) and I have cleaned the path (vaguely). went out last night (surprise 40th for a guy in work) and although I only had 4 pints, I was rather worse for wear. had a raging headache at 7am, but anadin extra fixed me right up!

suppose i should do something useful now, given that i have a whole 5 hours where i would have been in work and am not.

:-)

Excellent move. We did somthing similar with our previous landlord, as we just knew he was going to screw us over on the deposit cheque (and he did - not dusting the top of doors =180quid deduction?!?) so we pretty much made it break even as he'd not noticed he was missing the last few week's rent...

Hurrah! Glad that plan all worked out for you. Anything to get the better of estate agents (or landlords), I am in approval of. I have yet to have a decent one...
