So much that I haven’t posted about! Its just occurred to me that I never said anything about Renewal when I got back from the event, so distracted was I by the handing in of my notice etc. Not to mention all the stuff from this weekend.

Well then, brief summary of Renewal:

Good bits:

+ Roast Dinner on Sunday!! Best idea I ever had, feeding a full roast chicken dinner to 13 starving LRPers on the Sunday evening of the longest event of the year… well, longest for me Matt and Jamie, anyhow. It was great, roast chicken, roast potatoes, mixed veg and gravy. With cakes and crème eggs for dessert.

+ Monstering the battle with a bow – I always always love monstering battles with my bow.

Bad bits

- getting all stressed out on the Saturday after everyone left me in camp on my own to prepare dinner

- discovering during said time stuck in camp that none of the Lions in camp were making any effort to roleplay

- smoking cigarettes when I shouldn’t have

- drinking too much

- too much plot, not enough time to roleplay.

Now then, on to more recent events.

Thursday evening last week was my department’s ‘night out’. Straight after work, we went to the pub in Theale (where we always go at lunch) for a drink, before heading to the Thai/Bangladeshi restaurant in the village, called Café Blue Cobra. It was quite a nice meal actually, everyone was there, apart from the supervisors (Elaine was ill, Kelly had some bad news that day so had gone home) and Janet (who has kids so couldn’t come). Food was awesome, I had this ginger chicken and it was divine. The naan bread was also fabulous. Wine was drunk and everyone had a good time. Then we all piled into mine and Sophie’s cars and drove into Reading, where we proceeded to Yates and Reflex, and drank far too much Sex on the Beach. Jamie was very sweet and walked into town late to come fetch me in my drunk and wobbly state, and drive me home.

Needless to say we all felt a bit rubbish the next morning! It was a laugh, and it was cheap (meal only cost us £15 each – boss paid for the wine – and the cocktails were £7.50 a pitcher!). Was nice actually to spend some time with my friends here outside of the office, and has made me more inclined to make everyone go out for a drink with me when I finish here on the 29th.

The weekend has been kinda fun too, on Saturday morning, desperate as I was for a lie in, I got up nice and early to take Fidget to the vets for his vaccinations. I was at the vets for ages, waiting around first for the vet, and then for the receptionist, as the pregnant lady who was in before me with her cat Charlie took forever. Fidget was once again extrememly well behaved in his carrier, didn’t cry at all the whole way there, only moaned a bit in the vets due to the presence of another cat and an Alsatian puppy. However, when I got him in the vets room, he was a wriggly little monster. He’s much stronger now than he was when I took him last time, and he was determined to get away from her examination! Still, he’s been done now, and I just need to take him back on the 30th for the second half of the set. She said because of his age there was no point doing the leukaemia one, so he just had flu and enteritis. He was very lacklustre for the rest of the day.

The vets did give me the number to call to re-register his microchip, so I will try and remember to do that tonight. Not that I hold much faith in the system, given it failed completely to locate his previous home.

Saturday afternoon was spent finishing off the levelling out of the back garden, in preparation for the new shed. This was incredibly tiring, as it involved carting lots of breeze blocks about, and relaying half the patio.

Saturday evening we had no energy to do anything really, so we played Risk. It was the first time I’ve ever played original version Risk, having only ever before played one game of Risk 2210 (you know, the one where you can colonise the moon). I have to say I enjoyed the original version much better than the futuristic one, although Jamie assures me that Lord of the Rings Risk is also quite good. I like the 2 player rules, with the neutral party, and although initially I was doing rather well, a rather badly thought out campaign in North America against the neutral green army decimated my forces, which allowed Jamie’s black armies to march in and completely wipe me out, although we did have a mighty battle in Siam. Now I know where I went wrong, I want a rematch, so I can beat him J

Sunday was a day of shed-building. We got up not early, but not late either. Jamie did the washing up while I went to Tesco and did the weekly shop, then once we’d both finished, we got cracking. We started about 12.30pm, and finished at around 7pm, which was pretty good. The sun had just moved around to the side of the house though, so for the whole afternoon it was blazing down on us, heating up our aluminium sheeting and burning my neck and shoulders, which wasn’t so pleasant. The instructions had no words, only pictures, and only half the pieces were labelled. So I had a fun time working out how it works. We only made a couple of mistakes though, and on the whole I think we did rather well.

The only problem that’s actually a problem is the garden still isn’t level enough. We’ve tried, it looked level (even with a spirit level) but when we put the base of the shed down, it was alarmingly un-level. This won’t work with the shed; if it’s squiffy the doors won’t slide open! As far as the shed itself goes, I am most pleased. It is enormous! Should have plenty of room for all the kit and more – might even be able to get the marquee poles in it!

Not bad for a shed which was free, in the end. We’re actually now considering leaving it behind as a present for our current landlords, in the hope it will offset any charges they will try to impose on us for having the bed from upstairs stolen from our front garden, or for me putting my foot through the bath.

After the shed building, we were both exhausted, too tired even to watch TV. So I went to bed early, and now today am feeling all refreshed. Am also pleased as my sunburn was only very superficial, and my shoulders are brown instead of pink.

Got into work today to discover one of my work mates has won over £14 grand in a London Casino at the weekend, so she treated us all to lunch today in the pub. Which was nice, although the alcohol is making me sleepy now!
