the pope

we were talking about this last night, and seeing news stories again this morning i have to ask..

so many people are gathering aroudn the world to "pray for the pope". surely, this man was soo close to god, he really doesnt need anyone elses prayers to make sure he's looked after in heaven?

surely these millions of Catholics should be praying for the next one.

We pray for him because we love him. If you loved someone and they died and you were of a religious bent, wouldn't you include them in your prayers?

And, in a way, we are praying for ourselves, too. For strength.

Funnily enough, I've been thinking about the next Pope. On a Catholic board I frequent, someone put up a request to pray for the cardinals who will be picking the next incumbent.
