It is about 50,000 light-years away, with a diameter of about 150 light-years. (Actually from page 122, as page 123 is a map, taken from the Philip's Guide to Stars and Planets, by Patrick Moore. The constellation in question is Aquarius)

The parameter value is changed again by a larger amount until the chi-squared value exceeds an acceptable value, as judged by the F-chi statistic appropriate for p and mew degrees of freedon (see eq 4.24).
