well that has to be the best weekend of the year so far. so much for today being the most depressing day of the year, i'm on a real high after my weekend in york. even a dreary dull day in work did nothing to tarnish my new found joy at the world!

the weekend was fabulous. it was great to find that after a gap of 6 months, York has not changed all that much, and everyone there is still as great as i remember. There was no feeling of awkwardness or of being left out, everyone was welcoming and friendly as they should be. For a while after I arrived I was content to merely be around people who were my friends, and not necessarily actively talking etc, but i soon relapsed and was gossiping away like an old woman. managed not to talk about my job constantly. or to feel too old. Although i had moments of age when I met the new first years. who are all by the way fabulous and i'm pleased they're not too crazy. the society has a future after all.

I have to say also I was far more impressed with York's reaction to our engagement than Northampton's reaction. Everyone ooohed and aahed over my diamond with sufficient levels of interest and delight, and there was much huggage.

It was fantastic as well that so many of the people who dont live in york were there, Timmeh, Martin and Ben were all there and it was great to see them all, especially Martin, as out of the three he is the one i have not seen for longest. It was also nice to see James.

I am only mildly sad at the fact that although I saw most people, and more than i expected due to people travelling to york for it, there were people i could have seen as they were in york, but doing mildly cliquey anti-social type things, so i didnt get to see them. not the end of the world, but a sad reminder of my complete inability to maintain distance relationships with people.
