I dislike football. its a boring, pointless game.

however, I live in England, in the land of Chavs.

apparently there's some World Cup thing happening. some chap called Rooney's taking on Trinidad&Tobago, or some such similar.

As a result, I am now sat in the office, just me and my [Scottish] supervisor Elaine, as the entire department, plus the entire Contracts department next door, have all left early to go home to watch the football.

Since Elaine's on the other side of the office to me, I am free to wander the net and generally not do any work at all till 5pm.

I wonder if they'll give me the same priveledges during the Rugby World Cup...

People here have to book holiday or flexitime if they want to watch the football. This does not stop me from wandering the net and generally not doing any work while everyone else whitters about it, though. I will be taking advantage of the idiotic obsession by going to the gym - it was silent on Saturday afternoon during the last game.

now that would be a very good plan, except that my council cancelled my gym subscription so I don't currently have a gym to go to!

they have made everyone work the time back, they've not got an extra hour for free. which is a good thing, I suppose. although we were a little surprised when they said today would be a dress down day (and not charge us) so we could all wear our England shirts.

I'm wearing a Brazil shirt, just to stir trouble..

Haha it is the same at my work place, with the small exception I was allowed to go home as well, despite having absolutely no interest in football :)

Fortunately you are, by far, not the only one to share this view. But yes. Welcome to England...
